Privacy policy

Who we are

OneScribe is made by Casa Vargas LLC, a software company in North Carolina, USA (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the OneScribe app for iPhone and iPad and this website, getonescribe.app. Questions go to privacy@getonescribe.app.

What stays on your device

These happen on your iPhone or iPad, using Apple’s on-device frameworks:

• Scanning, text recognition (Apple Vision), and reading documents into Data Cards (Apple’s on-device Foundation Models).
• Search, document chat, voice questions and Siri requests, daily briefings, deadline alerts and connections between documents.
• Your library: page images, recognized text, Data Cards and settings are stored in the app on your device. Deleting the app deletes them, unless you’ve turned on iCloud sync.
• Spotlight search: document titles and metadata are indexed on your device so iOS search can find them. Documents you’ve locked are indexed without their text.
• Notifications for deadlines and briefings are scheduled on your device.

What can leave your device, and only if you turn it on

iCloud sync (off by default)

When you turn it on, your library syncs through Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) under your Apple Account, so it appears on your other devices. It’s stored by Apple and governed by Apple’s privacy policy. We have no access to it.

Private Cloud Compute (off by default)

Private Cloud Compute is Apple’s server-side Apple Intelligence. OneScribe only uses it when you turn on the switch in Settings, which requires Pro and Apple Intelligence. With it on, depending on your version of OneScribe:

• Enhanced Analysis, which you run on one document at a time, sends that document’s text to Private Cloud Compute. It never sends page images, and a locked document asks you first, every time.
• Questions across your library can be answered there from a compact index: your question, your last few questions and answers, and one short line per document (its type, title, date, vendor, amount, key dates and a one-sentence summary). Page images, recognized text and locked documents are never sent, unless you choose to include locked documents for that one question.

Every answer says whether it ran on your device or on Private Cloud Compute. Apple states that it does not store Private Cloud Compute requests. We never receive them.

Smart Lookup (off by default)

Smart Lookup adds public reference information to some Data Cards. When it’s on, OneScribe sends a single search term, never the document, directly from your device to one of these public services:

• A medication name to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (openFDA).
• A vehicle’s VIN, or its year, make and model, to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
• A product name or barcode to Open Food Facts.
• A book’s ISBN to Open Library, or to Google Books if Open Library has no match.
• A place or topic name to Wikipedia.
• A country name to REST Countries.

Like any web request, these services also see your IP address. Their own privacy policies apply. The results come back to your device; we don’t receive the term or the results.

Things you start yourself

• Downloads. Optional on-device voices and models are downloaded from Hugging Face when you choose to download them. Hugging Face sees the download request, including your IP address, but nothing from your library.
• Recipes from the web. When you import a recipe from a link, OneScribe fetches that web page, and the website sees the request.
• Tracking links. When you track a package or a flight, OneScribe opens the carrier’s or flight tracker’s website in your browser with that tracking or flight number.
• Sharing and exporting. Exports go through the iOS Share Sheet straight to the app or person you choose, with no server of ours in between. After that, the receiving app’s privacy policy applies. OneScribe doesn’t ask for or store your credentials for other apps.

Purchases

OneScribe Pro is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we never receive your payment details. Apple gives us sales reports that don’t identify you.

Crash reports and diagnostics

The app contains no crash reporter and no analytics. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics that don’t identify you. The app writes technical events to your device’s own log, which stays on your device unless you share it.

Email

If you write to us, we receive your email address and what you send, and use them only to reply. Ask us and we’ll delete the conversation.

This website

getonescribe.app uses Google Analytics and Plausible Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google Analytics uses cookies and processes information such as your IP address, device and browser under Google’s privacy policy. Plausible doesn’t use cookies. You can block both with a content blocker, and the site works without them.

Children

OneScribe isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Your choices and rights

Because we don’t hold your documents or an account for you, everything OneScribe stores is on your device or in your own iCloud, and you control it:

• Delete any document in the app at any time.
• Turn iCloud sync, Private Cloud Compute or Smart Lookup off in Settings.
• Delete the app to remove its data from your device. If you used iCloud sync, you can also remove OneScribe’s data from iCloud in your device’s iCloud settings.

For anything we do hold, such as email with us, you can ask to see it, correct it or delete it, whatever the law where you live. Write to privacy@getonescribe.app and we’ll respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

When OneScribe changes what it does with your information, we’ll update this page and its date, and describe material changes in the app’s release notes.
