Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 2025
TL;DR: OneScribe is an offline-first app. All processing happens on your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit your data. Your notes never leave your iPhone or iPad.
1. Our Privacy Philosophy
OneScribe was built with privacy as a core principle, not an afterthought. We believe your thoughts, notes, and documents should remain completely private. That's why we designed OneScribe to process everything on your device—no cloud servers, no data collection, no tracking.
2. Data Collection
We Don't Collect Your Data
OneScribe does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data, including:
- Scanned documents or images
- Extracted text from OCR
- AI analysis results (summaries, action items, etc.)
- Authentication credentials
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Device identifiers
- Location data
Zero data collection means zero privacy risk.
3. On-Device Processing
Everything Happens on Your Device
All processing in OneScribe occurs entirely on your iPhone or iPad:
- OCR (Optical Character Recognition): Uses Apple's Vision Framework, processing images locally on your device
- AI Analysis: Uses Apple Intelligence (FoundationModels), running completely on-device
- Text Extraction: All layout analysis and text extraction happens locally
- Image Processing: All image enhancement, cropping, and adjustments are done on-device
Your scanned documents, extracted text, and AI insights never leave your device during processing.
4. Cloud Integration
Direct API Connections Only
OneScribe integrates with Microsoft OneNote and Google Docs through their official APIs. When you choose to upload a document:
- Your document is sent directly to your chosen service (OneNote or Google Docs)
- No intermediate servers or third-party services are involved
- Authentication tokens are stored securely in your device's Secure Enclave
- We never have access to your cloud account credentials
Once uploaded, your documents are subject to the privacy policies of Microsoft OneNote or Google Docs, respectively.
5. Authentication & Security
Secure Enclave Storage
Authentication tokens for Microsoft and Google accounts are stored in your device's Secure Enclave—Apple's hardware security module. This means:
- Tokens are encrypted and isolated from the rest of the system
- Even we (the developers) cannot access your tokens
- Tokens never leave your device except for API calls to Microsoft/Google
- You can revoke access at any time through your account settings
6. Third-Party Services
Microsoft OneNote & Google Docs
When you use OneScribe to upload to OneNote or Google Docs, you are using their services directly. Please review their privacy policies:
7. Apple Services
App Store & Apple Intelligence
OneScribe uses Apple's services, which are subject to Apple's privacy policies:
- App Store: Standard App Store analytics (download counts, crash reports) are handled by Apple
- Apple Intelligence: All AI processing uses Apple's FoundationModels framework, which runs entirely on-device
- Vision Framework: OCR uses Apple's Vision Framework, which processes images locally
For more information, see Apple's Privacy Policy.
8. Local Storage
What's Stored on Your Device
OneScribe stores the following data locally on your device:
- Scanned Images: Temporarily stored in your device's photo library or app storage until you delete them
- Authentication Tokens: Stored securely in the Secure Enclave
- App Settings: Your preferences (default upload destination, template choices, etc.) stored in UserDefaults
All local storage is managed by iOS and can be cleared by deleting the app. We never sync this data to external servers.
9. Children's Privacy
OneScribe is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
11. Your Rights
Since we don't collect your data, there's nothing to request, delete, or export. However, you have full control over:
- Deleting scanned images from your device
- Revoking cloud service access through your account settings
- Uninstalling the app, which removes all local data
